It seems that when my index files grow to 2G, swish can't merge any new indexes into them. My file system is ReiserFS (we're changing to xfs) which, to my knowledge, doesn't have a 2G file size limit. Is this a limit in swish-e? It is possible for me to build swish to support larger files?
