Thanks for the response. 

I built some huge indexes with 2.4.5 (with large support enabled) and with the latest 2.4.5 dev tree, and they both worked. (Centos5/i386).

2.4.5-release without large file support on the same machine wouldn't read the indexes though (predictably).

I don't know of any way to test large file support without having a
 large file.
