Well ... it's configurable.  One of my lists is very high volume (600+
posts per week) so I have it split down into weekly files (when you
browse by posting date, that's the size of the file).  But what I'm
doing with Mailman/Pipermail is to index the individual postings, which
are one-per-file.  I use the normal filesystem access rather than HTTP.
