Not enough info.

You are capturing stderr, not stdout.  What's swish-e doing?  That is
written to stdout unless you use -E swish-e option.

Why not break your problem down into smaller parts? rose_spider_1.conf > docs.txt

  swish-e -c rose_1.config -S prog -i stdin < docs.txt

Then look at the output from swish.  Is there a segfault?  Does it
say indexing is completed or report some error?

BTW -- not a big deal, but I would not use FileFilter and instead use
SWISH::Filter -- that means adding in the SWISH::Filter code into
rose_spider_1.conf.  The only difference, really, is that
SWISH::Filter filters on content-type instead of the file's name.
