Yes, from the binary, but swish-e is just printing the error the OS is reporting.
Swish-e doesn't have an internal limit on the number of files.
As someone else already suggested, if possible can you just add to
existing indexes?
swish-e -M existing.index today.index out.tmp
mv out.tmp existing.index
rm today.index
Might also play with ./configure --enable-incremental and add files to
an existing index with -u option. Your existing indexes and not
compatible with --enable-incremental, BTW.
