Did you ever try building swish-e with --disable-shared configure 
option set?

Since this seems somewhat related to library loading/unloading I'm 
curious if that would help.

--disable-share will link swish-e with libswish-e statically, but other 
libraries will still be dynamically loaded.  I think there's also 
something like --all-static (just guessing) that will build a complete 
static binary.
