There's no need to link to Cygwin unless you have particularly good
reason.

SWISH-E will compile natively using GCC.  Best option is to install
MinGW and MSYS from http://www.mingw.org/ and compile just as before:
  ./configure
  make

If you need to compile against Cygwin then perhaps we can work on a
patch.
