Perhaps because there is no interpreter? ;)

The spider has no javascript interpreter, I know none which does.
Maybe you can change your html code to something like:

<a href="thelink.html" DEFANGED_onclick="ChangeBrochureCat('2');return false">

This would also help people like me who frequently disable Javascript in
their browsers to view your site.
