I sure you are right about it. 

1) memory leaks
I did myself some work on the memory leaks, as the patches found were not 
working as expected, or correcting all (known) leaks. As a result of this 
swish-e was slightly faster and exhausted memory later. I will deliver the 
files separately. 

2) Improvements
That sure would be nice. It looks like you have already put much thought 
into it. Did you develop anything?

3) Regular expressions
That's quite possible.

And I wish all that plus some bug fixing (foreign languages, spider, etc) 
could fit into swish-e version 1.3.3 or maybe 1.4.0
